Our mission
South Sudan's economy is trapped between two walls. We tear down both.
A foreign-dominated supply chain blocks young entrepreneurs. A digital currency nobody can spend traps customers. OpenMarket is building the first locally-owned, youth-powered digital economy in South Sudan.
The problem
The economy is caught between a foreign-controlled supply chain and mobile money that nobody can spend. For a young South Sudanese entrepreneur — and for everyday customers — breaking in feels impossible.
A foreign-owned supply chain
80–90% of goods are imported, and nearly every enterprise — from the smallest kiosk to the largest wholesaler — is foreign-owned. Young South Sudanese have no access to global suppliers, no capital to import, and no platform to sell.
Illiquid banks, unspendable money
Banks are illiquid and mobile money is worthless in most shops. People hold real value on their phones but can't use it for everyday needs.
E-money sold at a 50% loss
To get spendable cash, people are forced to sell their electronic money at up to a 50% loss — trapped between a foreign supply chain and a digital currency nobody accepts.
How we solve it
Two barriers. Two solutions.
For young vendors
Sourcing-as-a-service
We tear down the foreign import monopoly. OpenMarket finds the products, handles the logistics, and stocks the shelves — young vendors simply sell. No global supplier network required, no import capital needed.
- We source quality goods locally & internationally
- We handle shipping, customs and last-mile delivery
- Vendors list and sell — we do the heavy lifting
For customers
Split payments
We give electronic money real utility. Pay part cash and part digital, so the balance trapped in your bank account and mobile money finally buys what you need — while keeping prices unbeatable.
- Spend MoMo, M-Gurush & bank balances on real goods
- Split high-value orders: part digital now, part cash on delivery
- No more selling your e-money at a loss
Our vision
A South Sudan where the money in your phone buys what you need — and the next generation runs the marketplace.
